Arcadia TX History

Arcadia is part of Greater Katy which was previously called Cane Island.

In the 1800s, Cane Island was part of a land grant given to James J. Crawford.

When the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad laid rails through Cane Island, the area began to grow.

The name Katy was derived from the railroad: railroad officials referred to it as the Katy (KT). And the name became attached to the planned town.

Families moved into town in the 1900s, establishing farms and ranches throughout the area. Its expansion is generally attributed to the MKT and the completion of Interstate 10.

In 1945, Katy had become a municipality with a mayor and a city council.

Today, Katy has several neighborhoods including Arcadia.

Arcadia is a Ryland Homes project that is now known as CalAtlantic Homes after a merger with Standard Pacific. CalAtlantic's builders have a combined 100 years of experience in home construction.
