In 1891, Oscar Martin Carter purchased 1,756 acres of land northwest of Downtown. Carter and many investors spent $500,000 to develop the land.
Growth in the area continued in the 1940s. Later on, several businesses sprouted in the neighborhood after World War II.
In recent years, Brooke Smith started to redevelop the neighborhood. A diverse mix of renovated bungalows and Victorian-themed houses swarm the area. Some owners renovate old homes. Others tore the old houses and then replaced them with new residences.
