Richmond is the county seat of Fort Bend, located about 28 miles southwest of downtown Houston.

Fort Bend is the wealthiest county in Texas and is 5th on Forbes’ list of fastest-growing counties in the US.

Incorporated in 1837, the city has a commission-manager form of government. Richmond is home to several county offices and historic buildings. It is made up of several neighborhoods and master-planned communities, including Aliana, Lakes of Bella Terra, Pecan Grove, Harvest Green, Hillcrest, and Winston Terrace.

It covers a 4.3-square-mile area east of Rosenberg and Cummings, and west of Missouri City, Stafford, and Sugar Land. The city has the Greater Katy area to the north.

The city of Richmond is minutes away from main roads, including Grand Parkway to the east and Southwest Freeway to the south. US Highway 90A runs through the city.

Several outdoor recreation centers are available in the area, including Clay Park, Wessendorff Park, Davis Memorial Park, Richmond City Park, George Park, Fort Bend Country Club (a member-owned semi-private club), and Pecan Grove Plantation Country Club.
