Huffman Area TX History
Huffman Area traces its origins back to the mid-1800s. In 1839, David Huffman, a Texas Revolution veteran, settled in the tall pines north of what would later become Houston.
In 1888, a post office was established. In the early 1900s, the Beaumont, Sour Lake, and Western Railway established itself in the Huffman Area.
By 1914, the town had a population of 250 residents. However, from the 1940s to the 1980s, the area’s population remained below 100.
As the 20th century progressed, the Huffman Area experienced growth and development. Schools, churches, and local businesses emerged as the community expanded. This fostered a close-knit atmosphere while adapting to the changing needs of its residents.
