Sunterra TX History
Sunterra is a 2,303-acre master-planned community in Katy, Texas. Its history has a rich connection with the Greater Katy Area. Called Cane Island, settlers from Germany, Ireland, and England founded Sunterra in 1854.
The area experienced significant growth with the arrival of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad. In 1895, James Oliver Thomas developed plans for the town as the MKT passed through the area.
The name "Katy" originated from the railroad. Railroad officials called it the Katy (KT), and the name stuck with the planned town.
In 1945, Katy became an official town, marking an important milestone in its history.
Today, Sunterra is home to around 3,000 people. It boasts a variety of activities, such as golf, tennis, and swimming. The neighborhood enjoys a variety of dining and nightlife options.
