Kent Place TX History
Kent Place, situated within the Southampton neighborhood, has a fascinating history. It all began in the early 1920s when E.H. Fleming developed the neighborhood as a mix of homes and businesses.
The neighborhood joined the City of Houston in 1923. It implemented strict rules, like no apartments or duplexes.
In 1929, members formed the Southampton Civic Club (SHCC). They did so to ensure compliance with these rules.
The SHCC has been working hard ever since to keep the neighborhood a great place to live.
They preserved mature trees along the streets. This happened during infrastructure upgrades, like the 1972 installation of new water lines.
Another neat feature of the area is the alleys behind homes. They keep streets clean and make yards more spacious.
Kent Place is in the University Place Association. The group works with other neighborhoods and businesses. They want to make the area better for everyone.
