• Rodeo Palms Junior High School at 101 Palm Desert Dr. Rodeo Palms Junior High offers an Advanced Academics Program targeted toward gifted and talented students. • Pearland J H South at 4719 Bailey Rd. Pearland J H South offers Advanced STEM programs for its students. The school also has ESL/Bilingual and special education programs.

• Berry Miller J High School at 3301 Manvel Rd. Berry Miller Jr. High serves students from 7th to 8th grade. The school features various clubs and activities including theater and athletics.

High Schools

• Manvel High School at 19601 Highway 6. Manvel High School originally served as a relief school for Alvin High School. Manvel is Alvin ISD’s second high school and is home to the Mavericks. The school offers a variety of athletics programs, including volleyball, tennis, soccer, powerlifting, basketball, football, and baseball, among others.

• Glenda Dawson High at 2050 Cullen Blvd. Glenda Dawson offers courses in STEM subjects to help its students prepare for college. The school also features 33 AP courses that had been authorized by the College Board. Furthermore, Glenda Dawson also received multiple College Success awards.

Manvel TX History

In the early 1850s, the area now known as Manvel was a vast prairie rich in game and fertile soil. The area’s first settlers were a young couple, W. R. Booth and his wife Elizabeth, who moved from Tyler County to the banks of the Chocolate Bayou in 1857.

More families settled in the area after the war. At first, the small settlement was known as Pomona. Later, the Gulf, Colorado, and Santa Fe Railroad reached the area, connecting the settlement to Galveston.

The town site’s name was later changed since another town in west Houston was called Pomona. The new name stemmed from Allen Manvel, the president of the Santa Fe Railroad.

Incorporated as a city in 1961, Manvel is still growing. Like nearby cities like Pearland, several master-planned communities have taken root in and around the city.

The city of Manvel is mostly residential, though many dining options are available along SH 288. Residents can take a short drive to nearby Pearland for more shopping and dining selections.

The Pearland Town Center, Shadow Creek Town Center, Silverlake Village Shopping Center, and Shadow Creek Market Place are all within a few miles of Manvel.
