Oakhurst at Kingwood is part of the larger community of Kingwood. Kingwood, also known as the "Livable Forest," was developed in 1971 by the Friendswood Development Company. Kingwood was named after King Ranch, one of the original developers, before being sold to FDC.
Oakhurst at Kingwood was initially developed as a golf course community called Brentwood. FDC took control of the neighborhood in 2002, renaming it Oakhurst at Kingwood. FDC developed new amenities such as streets, landscaping, and a community clubhouse with a lodge and an Olympic-sized pool.
In 2004, Oakhurst Golf Club was sold to a management firm in Austin. The golf course is still a popular amenity for residents of Oakhurst at Kingwood.
