Port Bolivar TX History


Karankawa Indians once inhabited the peninsula. Then, white settlers arrived in 1819.

In 1838, the Republic of Texas granted Samuel D. Parr a league of land by the Republic of Texas. The town then was known as Parrsville for a while.

In 1893, a townsite company procured 2,978 acres and named its community Port Bolivar.

The Gulf and Interstate Railway began operating between Port Bolivar and Beaumont in 1896.

Port Bolivar was one of the first ports that was established in Texas.
