• Colony Meadows Elementary School at 4510 Sweetwater Blvd. The school seeks to help students take ownership of their learning. It has an Excellent rating from the TEB, with a scaled score of 96. Middle Schools

• Fort Settlement Middle School at 5440 Elkins Rd. (National Blue Ribbon School, National School of Character) Students are encouraged to become the leaders of tomorrow. • Santartia Middle School at 8125 Homeward Way. Named after a Karankawa Indian word, the school is a reminder of early Texan history. It seeks to develop compassion and collaboration in its students. The TEB gave Sartartia Middle School a scaled score of 96, earning it an Excellent rating.

High Schools

• Clements High School at 4200 Elkins Dr. The school engages its students in learning experiences that are modern and relevant. With a score of 93, the school garnered an Excellent rating from the TEB. It earns the College Success Award yearly for preparing its students well.

Built between 2006 and 2013, Telfair homes offer 3 to 5 bedrooms with 2 to 5 full baths. One- and two-story floor plans are available in the community.

Telfair's home sizes range from 2,000 to over 5,000 square feet. Lot sizes are between 5,000 and 17,000 square feet.

Common features include covered patios, media/game rooms, and outdoor spaces. Architectural styles are a mix of Traditional, Contemporary/Modern, and Mediterranean influences. Exteriors vary from brick and wood, brick veneer and stone, and stucco.

Telfair TX History

The 2,018-acre parcel where Telfair now sits used to be part of the Imperial State Prison Farm. The prison plantation, later known as Central Unit, opened in 1908. Newland Communities procured the property in 2002.

The developer decided to restore the old dormitory, called Two Camp, on the property. The restored 43,000-square foot Greek Revival building now houses the Houston Museum of Natural Sciences Sugar Land.

Telfair broke ground in 2005. The development garnered several awards over the years. Three of these are from the reputed Houston Business Journal. Telfair was also named Community of the Year by the Greater Houston Builders Association.

Several reputable builders signed up to construct homes in Telfair. These include Beazer, David Weekley, Highland, Meritage, Newmark, Partners In Building, Perry, Ryland, Trendmaker, and Taylor Morrison.

Telfair has been a great addition to Fort Bend County since its opening in 2006. It was one of the top-selling new construction master-planned communities in the area.

Today, the community is home to over 2,500 homes. It has a bustling commercial area and several community amenities.

Fun Things To Do Near Telfair

Telfair devotes 300 acres of space to community amenities. There are 3 rec centers, playgrounds, swimming pools, sand volleyball courts, sports fields, and tennis courts on the property.

The community also features around 70 acres of lakes and park areas. Trails line the shores of the community’s many lakes.

Another feature, the Telfair Central Hall, is a 9,545-square-foot recreation center. It has ample space for events, yoga classes, and other functions.

Central Hall also features a fitness center with even more amenities. It houses tennis courts, a canoe launch, and a swimming center (with a pool, slides, splash pads, and a zero-entry wading area).

Meanwhile, Jurgensen Recreation Center offers a swimming pool and a play area for children. Palmetto House is only available for residents of patio sections 28, 29, and 30.

Houston Museum of Natural Science Sugar Land used to be the Main Unit of the Central State Prison Farm. Its permanent exhibitions include Life Science, Earth Science, Space Science, Hall of Paleontology, and Discovery Works. The museum opened in 2009 and sits along University Boulevard.

There are a few dining and other commercial establishments within Telfair. For more options, residents don’t have to drive very far.
