Tiki Island TX History
Tiki Island is a delightful place to live. The Island is a small peninsula located just 5 miles west of Galveston Texas, and 40 miles southeast of Houston. Tiki Island is mostly man-made and was built in the 1960s when developers excavated canals and used the fill to lift the land to between 4 and 10 feet above sea level.
Initially, Tiki Island started as a small fishing camp. It then evolved into a place for full-time and vacation homes. This delightful waterfront community was incorporated on August 30, 1982. Tiki Island has its own Police Department, Fire Department, and City Hall. The roughly 1000 homes make for a very close community and friendly neighborhood in which to live. All of the home locations are constructed around canals. This provides convenient access to Galveston West Bay and boundless opportunities for saltwater fishing and other boating activities. The street names follow a Polynesian theme.
Tiki Island has an active Homeowners Association, known as the Tiki Island Civic Association (T.I.C.A.). It has also an Architectural Control Committee. These groups work together to enforce deed restrictions and maintain the value of the subdivision. It's a vibrant community where residents actively contribute to its upkeep and well-being.
