West of the Brazos TX History
In western Brazoria County, the community is situated four miles northwest of Brazoria, off State Highway 36. Developers first established the town as a residential area in the early 1950s. By 1958, the locals had built a chapel, a community center, and many shops. The residents established a volunteer fire department. Early 1960s county highway maps showed the community as a place, but no population estimates were available until the 1990 census. In the 1990s, the village had grain elevators, a church, and a community center. With almost 2,000 residents, West of the Brazos was still a residential neighborhood in 2000.
