Colonial Terrace TX History
The city of West University Place started out as a development well away from Houston. Ben Hooper, a former Tennessee governor, spearheaded the community’s growth in 1917. Named for its proximity to (what was then) Rice Institute, West University Place’s first lots sold the same year.
In 1924, the city of West University Place incorporated and adopted a formal city charter.
The community was developed in sections, and 26 subdivisions now make up the city, including Colonial Terrace.
Some Colonial Terrace homes date back to the early 1930s, though many have been replaced with newer and larger properties.

Colonial Terrace, thanks to its location near where Loop 610 and the Southwest Freeway meet, is minutes away from several shopping destinations, entertainment centers, and parks.
