Alvin North TX History

The neighborhood emerged in the 1800s with settlers from the Czech Republic and Germany. The settlers established a farming community and named the area “Morgan” after Alvin Morgan, one of the area’s original settlers.

Early growth and development in Alvin were due to the arrival of the Santa Fe Railroad in the 1800s. The railroad connection brought increased economic opportunities and accessibility to the area.

In 1893, the town's name was changed from "Morgan" to "Alvin" in honor of Alvin Morgan, the Santa Fe Railroad's property agent. The old name remained, and Alvin became the official name of the town.

Over time, Alvin has experienced steady growth and development, expanding its infrastructure, businesses, and residential areas to accommodate its increasing population.

Alvin, which is a part of the Houston metro region, has experienced trends toward suburbanization, with citizens looking for housing options outside of the city center that are close to Houston's economic prospects.
