Lovelady/Weldon Area was first settled by southern US pioneers in the early 1800s. The community is a combination of the two neighboring towns of Lovelady and Weldon.
The town of Lovelady was founded in 1872 after Cyrus Lovelady donated land for its railroad station. Established in 1869, Weldon was named after a local railroad official.
Lovelady/Weldon Area was a major lumber center in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The area's forests also supported cotton ginning, gristmilling, and brickmaking.
