Tomball Southwest TX History
The area now known as Tomball Southwest was settled by German immigrants in the mid-1800s. They were drawn to its rich soil and plentiful water resources. The first permanent settlement in the area was called Peck, which was founded in 1906.
The town was renamed Tomball in 1907 in honor of Thomas Henry Ball. He is a local attorney and politician who was instrumental in getting the railroad extended through the area.
Tomball Southwest experienced rapid growth in the early 1900s, due to the railroad and the oil boom that began in 1933. The Humble Oil Company struck oil southwest of town, and the area became known as "Oiltown USA." The oil boom brought many new residents to the area, and the town of Tomball grew rapidly.
